The BionX PL350 is the most versatile bike motor kit
It’s no question that BionX makes the best electric bike motors on the market. This is almost common knowledge. Of course, with all of the different options available with a BionX electric motor kit, it’s hard to determine which model is the best option.
For a versatile kit that can climb hills like a goat and speed on the flat like a cheetah, go with the BionX PL350. Just like the name states, this kit is using a 350 watt brush-less hub motor, which can power the rider up to 20 mph. It’s got a significant amount of power for city riding, and is often more than enough speed for the average person. The “L” in PL350 stands for Lithium, which is the battery of choice for every electric bike motor kit. This is by far the most effective battery available, as well as the lightest. It’s going to power a bike for at least 20 miles before it needs to be recharged.
A BionX PL350 is popular mostly for its integrated pedal-assist modes. There are four levels, each with a torque-sensitive percentage that measures the rider’s power. You press harder, the motor works harder. Increase the percentage, and you increase the amount of assistance the motor puts out. It’s simple, yet very intelligent. Of course, for those stretches of open road, you can always press the thumb throttle for a burst of maximum speed. Maybe that throttle is what makes BionX the most fun electric bike kit to ride.
Planning to ride the BionX PL350 over 20 miles? Don’t want to get stuck with a dead battery? That’s the single biggest fear for an electric bike rider, and often confines them to making shorter trips. BionX allows you to set your own distance, using their regenerative braking system. Just pull on the rear brake and a resistive magnetic field is applied to the motor, both slowing down the bike and recharging the Lithium battery. The best part? You don’t wear down your brake pads! If you have a long downhill stretch, or you just want to get some exercise, you can set the motor to stay in this regenerative mode and just pump life back into the battery as you pedal. You can extend a BionX trip by 10 or 15 miles this way!
