Today we all got a chance to ride the newest electric bike in our store, made by…Dahon? That’s right! Dahon, the leading manufacturer of folding bikes, has just released a folding electric bike called the Dahon Boost. With a 250 Watt motor built into the bottom bracket, and three levels of pedal-assistance, this little bike can pack quite a boost! (No pun intended) Each of us got to take the Boost around the neighborhood to see how it compares to the other electric bikes. Here are the results:

The battery is so light! It’s about half the weight of an eZee battery, and everything is centered under the seat post. Though it’s not as fast as other electric bikes, the pedal-assist was smooth, and I could pedal with almost no effort. Everything was right on the handlebars: the levels of assistance, the integrated light switch, the mechanical gear shifter. Super easy to ride, and it folds up just like a Dahon Mu P8. Nice electric commuter bike.
Shoi says:
It is a smooth ride. The step-through frame is nice so there is no need to kick your leg over the seat. It has a comfortable ride and is really simple to use. It is a great bike to ride around town to go the grocery store to pick up a few things or to bring a picnic to the park. The battery is small and light as not to be too obvious that you are riding an electric bike. I also like the color : )
Bert says:
This is finally another electric bike as smooth as the Giant Lite. The Dahon Boost electric motor gently kicks in when needed. The gearing on the Boost is a bit slow but this also makes it an amazing hill climber. The battery pack Dahon has chosen is very small, (which makes it super light) so don’t expect to go 50 miles in the sport power-level. Dahon has chosen top quality components throughout for this electric bike so it looks like it will last for years to come. I am very excited about the Dahon Boost, I am confident it will be one of our best selling electric folding bikes.
The price tag is a bit stiff but in line with other comparable, high quality electric folding bikes like the Dahon MUP8 with BionX.
