Last week, we went through a bit of a shift here at NYCeWheels, our shipper left the team, and one of our two salesmen, the charismatic, multi-talented Roberto, took over shipping duties.
It’s definitely not the easiest time for a shift like this. We are right in the middle of our busiest season, just got new shipments of the Tern Verge X series, as well as the newly released Dahon Vector X27h and the IF Mode, and we all have enough work to make a strong man weep.
Rain or shine, Tern or Brompton, Roberto gets the job done!
But, so far it’s been an excellent shift. Roberto is a tech guy, so he knows his way around computers and is very organized and efficient in everything he does. One by one he gets those folding bikes and e bikes, boxed up and ready to go. Today he told me that he researched the most common shipment complaints- scratched frames, missing parts, etc… – and now personally double-checks each order to make sure everything is perfect.
Roberto also speaks and moves about three times as fast as anyone I have ever met, which makes him very productive and also very difficult to understand. I, on the other hand, speak rather slowly, with long pauses between thoughts.
Here’s a typical conversation between me and Roberto:
“Roberto do you ever just……wonder what it’s all about?”
“Sure, don’t we all?TelIBertIpackedthebromptonsandthey’rereadytogodoyouwantanythingfromthedeli?”
“Yes…”
A mountain of folding bike boxes…
It’s good that Roberto functions at this pace though, as it’s our busiest season and we really all need to work at this pace. Today, I came to work, turned on my computer, wrote for a few minutes, and then when I turned around to ask Roberto a question, I came up against a massive monolith of boxes, walling me off from the rest of the shop. Roberto, peeked his head from around the side of the boxes and gave me an apologetic wave.
Tons of boxes = tons of folding bikes in nyc!
It feels good to be so busy though. Lots of electric bikes, folding bikes, and scooters going out making people’s lives happier and healthier. I suppose this is how Santa feels, if he had gone into the biking industry I mean. And if every day were Christmas eve…
Anyway, that’s all for right now but I’ll keep you posted. If you can, come by the shop and say hello! Take a test-ride on a folding bike or join us on one of our weekly free Brompton Bike Tours!
