There are several unique challenges that come with along with converting a folding bicycle with a bike motor kit. Not only do you have to account for the folding aspect where wires could be tugged (if not run correctly) but you also have to deal with trickier matters like narrow forks where standard motors wont fit. Arthur D. had a folding bike from Dahon and needed an electric motor kit. We had just the thing: a front wheel motor with lithium batteries stored in a discreet bag on the rear rack. What could be better? He would be able to pedal as much – or as little – as he liked and get as much – or as little – motor power as he liked at any time. That’s the beauty of our throttle based folding bike electric conversion. It’s portable power on demand!
The controller got tucked away right behind the steering column, so neatly integrated that you barely notice it! Our motor slid right into the fork without a squeak or a grind, without having to stretch it (impossible for most aluminum folding bike forks) and lined up just right. The wiring ran along the brake cables back to the rear rack where a discreet and waterproof bag held the 10ah lithium battery pack.

We’re pretty excited about this new folding electric bike kit and so we’re planning to offer it as a standard electric folding bike on the Dahon Vitesse. This will work out perfectly with 7 speeds, fenders, and a rear rack. It’s basically ready to go as is, all it needs is an bike motor kit.
So you techies, what’s so great about our folding bike motor kit? A sensor-less controller and motor for one. This means you only have 3 wires running to the motor and every less wire means one less chance for something to go wrong. Of course, being sensor-less means you have to kick off when you start but that’s a small nuisance compared to having to get it fixed often.
