Ever heard that name: Stromer? I hadn’t until about 3 months ago when I found them on our website. When I asked about them Bert said something like, “Yeah those are the electric bikes from Switzerland, great stuff…” I left it at that, as we sometimes put up cool new concept products on the main page in case they take off. This one turned out to be something different.

Discovering the Stromer electric bicycle

Here and there, in the time since I first discovered the Stromer electric bicycle, I’ve heard whispers of the Stromer from different people. Fleeting mentions, and then finally an order! then 2 more!

Given that we hadn’t been promoting these Swiss electric bicycles at all I was quite shocked when one day someone walked in and bought one without asking any questions… how did our customers get so educated?

As far as I can tell, people get obsessed with this electric bike – and for good reasons.

First of all, it has a super powerful 600W motor (even more than the A2B Metro!). That motor gives it great acceleration, a smooth feel at top speed, and the kind of kick you would expect from a moped. But it’s not just about power with the Stromer. It’s also an electric bike that can deliver smooth assistance to your pedaling. A bike that can work with your leg power, giving you a boost rather than taking over entirely. Now that’s just the electric system, for sure one of the most advanced on the market.

There’s also the looks of Stromer bike to take into account.

Designed with simplicity and elegance in mind, Stromer electric bicycles have a sort of quiet modern allure. The aluminum frame is not curvy or extravagant, it is subtle and understated. I like the addition of a front shock absorber and can appreciate the quality of good parts used throughout the bike.

I can’t wait to test ride the next Stromer electric bike that comes through the shop. Look forward to a nice video review of that one!

I test rode one of these a few months ago – definitely a bit overpriced for what it is. I went with the new A2B Metro instead – worth every penny, and it cost me less than the Stromer would have in the end. The reason I went with the Metro is because the motor function was much smoother, and it comes with integrated lights and a very cool display. Also, I did my research – Stromers are not made in Switzerland, bur rather Taiwan and China, just like most e-bikes.

Glad to hear you found the right electric bike for you. The A2B Metro is definitely a great bicycle, it only lacks the pedal assist features of the Stromer. Have fun and keep riding! -Peter

I tested more than a dozen high end Electric bicycles and the top one was the Optibike, The second in overall quality (paint, welds, materials, components, etc, etc,), speed, smoothness, looks, technology and design was……The Stromer, this bike has performed so well That I purchased a second one for the wife and she loves it, I ride in colorado where the terrain varies quite a bit and the alttitude changes quickly, the only thing I would change is the tires for more grip on harder trails.
I highly recommend this bike to anyone.

Hello,
I am thinking about a stromer to get at my work. I have to ride 33km (about 20 miles) and I want to do it in 1 hour. When I ride a normal city bike at 20 km/h and do it in 2 hours (16,5 km averidge). So is it possible to do it with a stromer ? I have to go about 30km/h fast (or some more if possible) I am a normal guy 80 kg 1,8m high and a litlle sportif (I row 2x a week).
The road is flat (2 bridges over a highway also). Is it possible to maintain sutch a speed and does the battery last as long ? What do you think is it possible ?
How far can you drive eventualy ? Kind graetings, Wim. (from Belgium)

Hi Wim,

You could probably only get 20 miles max range on the Stromer but only if you do a lot of pedaling. It would probably also take more than one hour to go 20 miles though due to stopping/starting. As you get towards the end of the battery range the speed will decrease slightly on hills or when accelerating.

I just got back yesterday from Bern Switzerland where I had the pleasure of riding one of these rockets…….I rented a flyer C for 3 days (what a dog) and then spent a short while on the Stromer-Ferrari red, WOW!!!! A bit expensive but it seemed worth every shekel !

Nice! First time I road an electric bike was through the free rental program in Bern, though mine was not nearly as cool as the Stromer. Good deal! -Peter
